Peak Vista Community Health Centers (Peak Vista) will feature two Olympic giants at its 20th annual fundraising event, the Breakfast of Champions®, on Wed., Oct. 16, 2024, at Broadmoor Hall. The event celebrates individuals who overcome physical and mental challenges to achieve extraordinary feats that expand our understanding of human capacities.
Proceeds from the event will support Peak Vista’s Uncompensated Care Fund. The Uncompensated Care Fund provides medical, dental, and behavioral health care to those who cannot afford it otherwise. In 2024 alone, Peak Vista will provide more than $14.8 million of Uncompensated Care to its patients.
Peak Vista is honored to recognize two remarkable individuals in 2024:
Keynote Speaker: Janet Evans
Evans is widely considered the greatest female distance swimmer in history. At 16, during the 1988 Seoul Games, she singlehandedly broke the stranglehold of the Eastern Bloc on Women’s Swimming – winning the first of her four gold medals and setting the first of her seven world records. During these games, it was Hybl who presented her with her first gold medal. Evans currently serves as the Chief Athlete Officer for the L.A. 2028 Olympic Games.
Champion of Community Health: William J. Hybl
At the October event, Peak Vista will present Hybl with its 2024 Champion of Community Health Award. The Champion of Community Health Award is bestowed to advocates for and changemakers in community health. It was first presented to Bishop Richard Hanifen, one of the key founders of Peak Vista, during the original Breakfast of Champions® event in 2005.
Early in his long association with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee, serious health complications during the Seoul Games led Hybl to recognize Peak Vista and the critical role it plays for thousands in Colorado Springs and beyond. Since 1988, he has been a passionate and generous advocate for Peak Vista and health care in our community.
“2024 is a milestone moment for the Breakfast of Champions®, celebrating its 20th year of bringing our community together to ensure health care is available to all. While Peak Vista has evolved over the years, the spirit of the occasion is unchanged – to raise funds to break down barriers to good health,” states Dr. Emily Ptaszek, President and CEO, Peak Vista.
“Bill and his late wife Kathy have been a part of the Breakfast of Champions since the very beginning, helping create this tradition and improving access to health care for many who went without. His profound empathy and leadership have been transformational to this community.”
